I'm trying to create a cube analysis data connection in Excel to access a sql server over http. I setup the olap virtual directory according to the microsoft instructions and copied msmdpump.dll into the director.

When I go to define the connection using http, I type in and I get the following error when I click next:

Code:
Olap server error on connection ipaddress

OLAP server error: Not Found.

However when I import data using the import data function, and connect to a data source, it brings in the data ok.

Does anyone know why this may be happening?

I found the solution to this error, sql server 2005 sets up tcp to listen on port 1433 on default, at least for my installation anyways. Once I switched to that port, it connects, only now I'm getting this error on my system

Code:
OLAP Server error on connection [b][i]server ip address[/i][/b]

OLAP Server error: The handle is in the wrong state for the requested operation

On the server the following event error shows up:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
Event Category: (4)
Event ID: 17836
Date: 7/4/2006
Time: 12:24:56 PM
User: N/A
Computer: WEBSERVER
Description:
Length specified in network packet payload did not match number of bytes read; the connection has been closed. Please contact the vendor of the client library. [CLIENT: [b][i]my ip address][/i][/b]

Any ideas as to the cause of this

Hi, I found the solution to my question. Actually, I thought I had done this already but I guess I must have missed it. I didn't install msxml 6.0 or oledb provider 9.0 prior to installing the cube analysis program...
