Setting up server extensions

I have downloaded server extensions off the web and installed it on my server running IIS. However when i publish my website into a folder I have made on the root of my f: (which is a local hard drive) on my IIS sewrver, my discussion boards etc don't work.

Do I have to publish my website to a specific folder on my IIS server?
Is there a special way of installing server extensions, I am not sure why mine is not working??
