Hi

I've maanged to connect to an external server via their IP address so i can now see my server Server1 and the external web server Server2.
Databases that are created in Server1 I'd like created on Server2 also.
Then the data within the tables on Server1 I'd like replicated in Server2 (I'd like this done once a day at night)
also there may be occasions when I need data from Server2 replicated within Server1

I believe I can set-up replication whereby i create server1 as the distributor/publication and then within Server2 I choose New Pull Subscriber and select the publication from Server1 ??
anyway it doesn't work !

any brief steps on how to get this working would be much appreciated
regards
keith

Keith,
What type of replication are you using? What error are you getting? What are you seeing on the screen?

Replication is usually fairly straight forward. You run through the wizzard, tweak the jobs if needed and you are good to go.

Hi Denny

probably use snapshot
the error I'm getting is process could not connect to Distributor Naples (which is Server1)

I'm assuming that you've got server1 setup as the distributor. If you want the replication to be able to go both ways then snapshot isn't going to work for you. You'll want merge replication for that. Snapshot only goes one direction, and it wipes out any changes to the subscriber when it runs.

I would setup the distributor first then setup the publication parts. Makes it a little cleaner. Run through the wizzard and tell it that you just want to make it a distributor. Then authorise server1 to be a publisher, and server2 to be a subscriber. Then run through the wizzard again to setup the publication.

yeah I've tried that - no joy
from my PC I see naples (server1) and the external web server (server2)
however when you actually log onto the external web server within SQL there is only server2 not Naples. Do i need to set-up Naples on the external web server also ?

Yeah, probally. You will need to register server1 in server2's enterprise manager to be able to pull the subscription from there.
