I have an Asus P4G8x Mainboard. I'm going to set up Raid 0 (striping) using two Western Digital 10,000 rpm Raptor 36GB SATA hard drives. This rig will be primarily used for high end gaming. When setting up the raid sets using the autoconfig, the default "chunk size" is 16k. I'm not so sure this is desirable for what I'll be using it for. The chunk size goes all the way up to 128k if you manually configure it. The documentation states the smaller size is for servers, the larger size for AV applications. What one should I use, or should I use one in between. I need some help from you raid experts. Thanks!!

boyd4444 - bump it up to 32K or 64K for your setup. The 16K default is a tradeoff between performance of Windows, Internet Explorer and the usual home office-type apps. The larger chunk size will favor opening large files (game AVI's, MP3's etc.)

Consider creating an 'Archive' partition on the innermost cylinders of your array and keeping an on-disk backup of your entire system. Useless if you lose a disk, of course, but so quick with an array and easy to do that it's worth the trouble.

Thanks, Dreamland, I will create with chunk size at 64k. When do I create the archive partition. before the operating system is installed?
