I have a number of clients that are part of a Domain.

The Servers belonging to this domain are moving to a different physical location, and I need to assign a new IP address within the same WAN, to the limited no of Users & printers remaining behind.

All existing clients/printers etc, have addys in the range 10.x.2.x - those remaining behind, will have 10.x.3.x

I need to change the IP addy on a HP Laserjet 4100N Printer, to be on the 10.x.3.x range.

This printer has a builtin network card and previously was setup on a print server and clients just added the printer via, \\servername\printsharename

How can I get clients on the 10.x.3.x range to connect to the printer once I've changed the IP?

Clients are a mix of XP Pro sp2 & W2K Pro

Thanks

Thanks...

Hi!

Use this document to change the IP on your printer:

The IP address is also located in the printer driver on the clients or server. To change it:

Start -> control panel -> printers (& faxes). Right click and select properties on the printer. Select the ports tab in the driver. Highlight the standard TCP/IP port and press configure port and change the IP address.

Thanks for that - does that hold through even if the Server where the printer is setup, is no longer there.

For example, most clients would connect to the printer as it is, from RUN \\Servername\Printersharename

Can I simply change the Port on the Printer properties to reflect the new IP address?

Thanks

Keeping in mind, that if your old network is 10.x.2.x, and your new one is 10.x.3.x, that's a /16 bitmask, instead of a /24 (netmask 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0) if you want the computers from the 2.x to see printers on the 3.x.....

Just my 2¢
