We have 2 servers running windows NT with about 45 workstations running XP pro. One server is the domain controller and has the exchange 5.5 on it. The other is a file and print server. I have been asked to monitor the performance on both these machines now that all the workstations are XP pro to check if the system is overburdened. Things have been running fine so far. How would I set up the performance monitor (or is their an easier way)? Thanks.

In it's simplest form the Performance tab in Task Manager
will tell you the important things like is the memory/cpu being caned.
Performance monitor itself is a slight overhead but can be easily configured and also have a log file set up so that analysis after a period of time can be taken.
Set the performance monitor to run during core hours with an interval of around 15seconds. Write to a log file on a sizeable disk.
There are a vast array of things perfmon allows you to monitor so you may want to tailor it to your own requirements.
