Setting up paging through the phones for OR Department? 1

Good Afternoon,

Our Surgery department has 16 OptiPoint 410 IP phones for handling all their phone calls however, they also use 16 separate Executone phones for paging within the department. (No separate overhead paging only hospital wide) I’ve been told to eliminate the Executone phone system and setup department paging through their existing Siemens phones. They understand that if they are on the phone they won’t hear the page and are ok with that. Being new to Siemens (Had some training in Dallas) I do not know the best way to handle this. We have Openscape 4000 V7R2 with redundant processors. In the hospital we have 4 local shelves and one IPDA shelf. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You can setup a broadcast to one number using code BROADCST, as long as the calling party has permission (SDAT) to activate broadcast. By making the IP phones key system phones, you can broadcast to all of them. So you'll need to lose 2 buttons on the phone. One for key system prime line (its own number) and another button for the secondary key system number to receive the broadcast.. so you need 2 LINE keys on each phone.

Wow, that works nicely!! I wasn't here when my switch was designed, but the designer used the COMSPKR feature to do pretty much the same thing, but it was complicated to configure. Phones had to be in a Com Group, etc. I just set this up as a test, piece of cake..
