Hi all im new here but im having a really hard time setting up my new linksys routers. I just purchased 2 wrt54g linkys routers and every time i try to install them it cannot find a connection to the internet. The internet works just fine when its plugged directly into the computer, but when plugged into the router it cannot access webpages, but strangely enough it can ping certain addresses. It is a very strange situation and it is with both of my routers that i just bought from CompUsa so i cannot return them, and i dont imagine that they are both defective. Cannot anyone shed some light on steps to try to fix this problem? Thanks

There are certain things we will need to know - such is it DSL, Cable, Hotwire ect.. the you are connecting to?

Can you get to the internet - what error are you getting when you click on internet explorer?

Have you ran IPConfig /all to ensure you are recieving the following info

IP Address
Gateway addres
DNS Addresses

Have you logged into the router and chec the status to see if the router is recieving the same as above.

Now this may sound like I am treating you like your dumb but I am not - Did you follow the installations steps given by Linksys step by step - I know from experience that the newer ones you have to and then it will connect - that means plug in the right cable when told to.

I am setting it up for Verizon DSL. When i click on internet explorer i get the page cannot be displayed message. When i do ipconfig i get a 192.168.1.101 address, and 192.168.1.1 default gateway. And when i installed it from the box i did follow the directions to the T, and when it got to the connection part is said cannot find internet connection. The new routers dont take your configuration in the beginning like it used to. When i did the installs before the setup disk would take all of your connection info in the beginning of the installation and apply those settings at the end to the router, the new installation does not do that.

The new installation do all the configuring for you. First reset the router back to its factory settings then leave everything unplugged and start the setup CD - Plug in each cable and power when the cd tells you to and it should connect up - Sometimes Linksys can be a pain - if it doesn't work this time you will have to do it manually by logging into the router and setting the internet connection.

Try a couple of things. Connect directly to the modem and write down your DNS adresses, there should be two of them.

Next connect one of the Linksys to the modem and go to Status Tab and Release and Renew the IP Address and see if that works.

If not, try getting into your NIC Card properties and statically assigning the DNS addresses to your computer and see if that works.
