Hey im a newbie to apache. I downloaded apache http for win32. and i got it all installed correctly and it runs correctly but the only way i can view my site is by either typing my ip in a browser or by typing computer.westln01.mi.comcast.net. How can i make my own domain name For example: Someone please reply.

First of all you need to register a domain name. You can't just simply invent and expect to have that go to your box. You can register one at or or many other places. After you have done that you will need to edit the dns entry for that domain and have it point to your ip. This can be a problem if you have a dynamic ip. If your ip is not static you will need to subscribe to a service such as and you will point your domain to that.

There was somebody on here the other day that said theirs was cheaper by a few cents. :)

For Dynamic IP, try ZoneEdit.com. Don't pay more than $15 for a domain.

hey,

The dns2go program on work really well. And with that program you can register a domaine name through register.com. And they are not that expensive. Plus register.com has some other nice services.

take care
