We have a number of people floating now because of a large erp project we are implementing. This means that more than one person may be getting mail from a single system. <br>

How do we keep other than the first user installed on the machine from getting notifications about that first persons mail and have all of their own databases set up in a work space just like when you first set up a new user?
 
What I did when I was moving around from office to office was put my notes id in the notes data folder. Then when you sign on to Notes, you Switch User from the File/Tools/switch user and you can pick your ID. It will ask for your password and you should be set. Then everytime someone else needs to see their mail, they just Switch User again to thei ID and so on.
 
An easier method would be to create Location Documents specific to each User, keeping the ID files for each on the local machine. Make each Location Doc specific to a particular ID, make sure the different mail files are specified and name the Loc_Docs as Jim's Mail or Joe's Mail. Then the Users simply click on the lower right hand side of the WorkSpace to choose which Mail File to use. Any open databases that are User-Specific will be automatically closed upon this action. Using different Personal Address Books for each User could get complicated, but if it's only mail file switching, this is the best way. I've set up some machines with up to a dozen different Users per machine, and as long as the previous User remembers to log out of Notes, nobody is able to access anybody else's mail.

Another possibility is to create a different Notes shortcut for each person:<br>

1. Create a directory under c:\notes titled user2<br>
2. Copy all the files in the c:\notes\data directory to c:\notes\user2 directory<br>
3. Copy the W32 directory from c:\notes\data to c:\notes\user2<br>
4. Delete the following from c:\notes\user2<br>
*.id<br>
*.nsf except pubnames.nsf and helplt4.nsf<br>
*.box (if any exist)<br>
desktop.dsk<br>
names.nsf<br>
5. Copy the NOTES.INI file from c:\windows to c:\notes\data and c:\notes\user2<br>
6. Rename c:\windows\notes.ini to c:\windows\notes._ni<br>
7. Edit c:\notes\data\notes.ini and verify each of the following lines are present, add any that are missing (do not change any other entries)<br>
Directory=c:\notes\data<br>
Notesprogram=c:\notes<br>
WinNTIconPath=c:\notes\data\w32<br>
8. Save and close c:\notes\data\notes.ini<br>
9. Edit c:\notes\user2\notes.ini, delete all lines except [Notes] and add the following:<br>
Directory=c:\notes\user2<br>
Notesprogram=c:\notes<br>
WinNTIconPath=c:\notes\user2\w32<br>
10. Save and close c:\notes\user2\notes.ini<br>
11. Create a shortcut to c:\notes\notes.exe on the windows desktop for each of the people using Notes on the machine<br>
12. Change the Start in field to the path of the user’s local data directory (e.g. c:\notes\data, or c:\notes\user2)<br>
13. Name the shortcut using the user’s name (e.g. Mike’s Notes)<br>
14. Start Notes from the appropriate shortcut<br>
15. Notes will need to be configured per validation for each new user. This includes setting up the location document, replicating the mail database, and setting up the Favorites database.<br>
16. Repeat steps 1-15 for each additional user
 
BlueAngel, thanks for the How To. I just tested it and it worked great. Good step by step on how to make it possible and it's much easier for the users, who know nothing about Lotus.
