I'm sorry to bother you with newbie questions, but I couldn't find the answer looking through the Tek-Tips forums. I'm trying to set up a Merlin Mail 2 (which I reset to factory settings thanks to the help of all of your out there who posted how to do it) on a Merlin Legend R7. The manuals have been a bit confusing, and I'm not sure how to set up mailboxes. That is, I know how to create mailboxes, but what extensions should I give them? The same extension as the phone of the person to whom the mailbox belongs (eg 10,11,12)? Or extensions in the 9000's? How do I program the phones (HFAI-10, BIS-10, MLX-10, etc) to link that phone extension (and the phone's corresponding message light) to the user's mailbox, and how do I create a button on the phone to automatically go to the user's voicemail?

Also, I know this is a longshot, but I've heard that the MM R2 is not completely Y2K compliant. Anyone know more about this, specifically what problems I should expect to run into and the best ways to avoid them?

Thanks for everything. You guys have helped so much more than the Lucent/Avaya manuals ever could :)

The mailbox numbers should match the extension numbers of the people assigned to them. If you have floaters that don't have assigned phones, they can have "guest" mailboxes, a place to deposit messages, but without an assigned phone and message waiting light. They just have to check periodically to see if they have any messages.

The lights are automatic when the mailbox matches the extension number.

The 9000 series mailboxes are the General Mailboxs for the Auto Attendants (9991 for Auto Attendant No. 1, 9992 for AA No. 2, etc.), and 9997 for the System Administrator.

You can make an Inside Auto Button to call the Voice Mail calling group, but you cannot put their log in and password on the button for security reasons.

As far as Y2K issues, the system clock can be set to a date in the '90s that has the same day-of-week and date as years after 2000, which is OK because the message time and day stamp does not include the year. I have the Avaya cheat sheet around, if you need it I can find it and type in the settings.
