I'm a newbie at indesign, but am have major problems with image quality. I've set all the parameters to the highest res for display and printing, but they are still very pixelly compared to the source image.

I was told that I have to setup a link so that in design uses the source file. How do you do this? The manual doesn't help much.

You might try going to View menu/Display performance and selecting High Quality.

You can also set this in Preferences/Display performance. If you pick High for every type of image, the images should look the same as the original onscreen.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

If you place an image (using "place" under file) it should be automatically linked to the original image. Use the link window to make sure the link isn't missing or in need of updating. If you still have problems, maybe your original isn't high res? That's assuming you've followed JM's advice above about the high quality display view.
