I am trying to setup a home network between a couple of computers, one running Windows 98 and the other running Windows 2000 Professional. I have set everything up, I can access the shares on the Windows 98 box from the Windows 2000 box but I can't access the shares on Windows 2000 box from the Windows 98 box, it keep asking me for the IPC$ password. I have tried every password I know, nobody uses the Windows 2000 box but me so there is no change in the passwords. Is there any way around this?

On the W2K box add a user that corresponds to the user on the W98 box. Set a password, and share the folders you want to be available. Then when you input a user name and password when prompted by W2K use the new one you have set up.

Another option is to enable the guest account. If you are not concerned with network security, enabling the guest account is what you could do. It allows EVERYONE with network access to access to the Windows 2K machine. Now once you do that, if there happens to be files or folders you dont want anyone to accss then you just deny those users rights. James Collins
