Setting up iptables for proxy

Hi,

Due to the location of where I am currently living and government restrictions on certain websites, I am trying to set up a proxy server on a server I have located in the US for the purpose of redirecting traffic that I cannot ordinarily get at.

It has Fedora 8 installed, and I am trying to achieve the above using iptables - using the Webmin interface I have installed. I have read a number of web pages, but I'm not sure what I need to do and everything I've tried hasn't worked.

Here is a simple diagram of what I'm trying to achieve, where the numbers are the TCP ports:

(my home comp) --> (my remote server:8080) --> (website:80) --> (my remote server) --> (my home comp)

Note: my home computer and the remote server are both connected to the Internet, i.e. my computer is not on a private network. Also, there is only one network interface on my remote server. I could get a second one if necessary, but I'm hoping that this wouldn't be required (since I would have to pay for it, which I would rather not do).

I would then change the proxy settings in my web browser when wanting to access the inaccessible sites.

If anyone could tell me how I should do this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

I'm not sure why you need iptables for this. squid should be able to handle the proxying for you without any fancy firewall work (although you may want to do some of that for other reasons).

Annihilannic.
