Setting up sonicwall firewall for first time. Some general questions.

1. Should I switch the firewall to NAT requests now or should the DSL modem NAT addresses for internet requests still?

2. Should firewall IP config contain ISP external DNS numbers or internal DNS numbers or both? My internal DNS server is set to forward so just the internal number should be fine?

Hey,

1. I'd recommend using the firewall. Its a designed security product, whereas I'd imagine your modem is a basic model for home users. If in doubt, why not do both?!

2. Use the extenal. DNS on your clients should be to the local DNS server, Server forwarders to the ISP DNS and gateway for all should be to the firewall (unless you have content filtering servers or anything.)

Good Luck, and post back if you need any more help.

Steve.
