Hello All,

I've followed the advice on the forum and I from what I have read, I should be able to get a fax now but I can't.

Here is my system;
5 Slot Carrier. Slot 1 is a 308EC R3, Slot 2 is a Parner Messaging R1.0 w/2 port V, Slot 3 is the ACS processor R6 and slot 4 is another 308EC but an R1.

I have assigned Ext 25 as a fax extension. I have verified that it is extension 25 by plugging in a phone and paging ext 25 and that line picking up. I have also logged into the system admin and verified that this is a fax extension. I am also able to send a fax from that extension. The problem starts is when I try to manually transfer a fax call to that extension.

I am at extension 10 and when I pick up the ringing line, I hear the fax tone, I hit transfer 25 and hang up. At that point, nothing happens. The fax shows no signs of life and the call eventually rings back to me. You never see the line light turn red. It's always green like it's waiting for someone to pick up. The fax is set to auto answer after one ring.

Besides trying to do this, what else an I doing wrong?

Scott,

Few things to check, make sure call waiting is not assigned to the fax extension, To use fax machines on the system, you must program lines for fax calling tone (CNG) detection, and identify the extensions that have fax machines.

see if this works.

Scott,

Also, check this;;;

Change the extension’s setting for Distinctive Ring (#308) to Not Active, so the extension uses the same ringing for intercom and transferred calls as it does for outside calls.

Thanks Phil,

I'm pretty sure all of that is done. Would I be correct in the assumption that if I picked up another extension and did a transfer *25 it should get the fax machine to answer or is that just too simple?

Scott,

pressing transfer then *, then the extension number, in this case 25, opens speakerphone. You don't want to do that. How do you have extension 25 programmed? Try to include all attributes. lines, ringing etc. etc.

Phil

Per your advice and what I have read, I have things set the following;

Hunt Group 8, Ext 25, Line 7
Ext 25 - Call Cover rings =2, Abbreviated ring =Not active, Auto Ext Privacy = Assigned, VIOB Ext = Not Assigned, Auto VM Cover = Not assigned, VM Cover rings = 1, Call Waiting = Not assignes, Transfer Return Ext = 25.

Group Membership calling group 1, hunt group 8 and no restrictions.

Auxillary Equipment - Ext 25, Fax Machine Ext = Assigned, Auto Attendant Ext = Assigned, Intercome dial tone = Regular, Distinct Ring = Not active, External Hotline = Not assigned, Contact closure = Not assigned, Internal hotline = None, Doorphone alert = Not an alert.

Auto Attendant 1 & 2 = Fax extension assigned = 25
Extensions 25 - Fax

Hope this helps a little. Thanks in advance.

Scott,

I am assuming when you call in directly it works, only on transfer it does not.

Phil

Auxillary Equipment - Ext 25,

Fax Machine Ext = Assigned

Auto Attendant Ext = Assigned

Intercome dial tone = Regular

Distinct Ring = Not active,

External Hotline = Not assigned,

Contact closure = Not assigned,

Internal hotline = None,

Doorphone alert = Not an alert.

Remove the assignment for "Auto Attendant Ext = Assigned", and "Fax Machine Ext = Assigned" - it only needs to be assigned to hunt group 8.

Calling * and an extension number to a non-Partner phone will just ring, so that's actually OK.

Make sure the line cord is plugged into the "line" jack of the fax, and not the "phone" or "ext" jack.

It should answer with FAX tone when you dial its extension number.

Thanks for all the help. I've made all the changes to the xmg file and now I try to connect to the partner and guess what? Now I'm having modem trouble. I've tried the three different ways, tried changing the baud rate, etc, etc and nothing. Just don’t get an answer at the other end. I'm going to throw this bloody thing out. You know what my first clue should have been? To call a professional to begin with and I wouldn't have this crap. Anyway, I'll keep trying and will update if and when I do connect.

Throw away the remote access software. Go to Ext. 10 or 11.

And, yeah, a local experienced makes all the difference in the world!!

Also make sure your Fax is set to the least amount of rings before it picks up.

Hi Guys,

I have everything set like its supposed to be. I followed all of the advice and double checked TouchToneTommy's instructions to the letter. I can send from there but when I try to receive, I get the same thing. The light on the phone stays green when I transfer the call to the fax extension and finally rings back. It may sound like a silly question, but to transfer the fax is just transfer *25 and hang up? Did I miss something here? Also, the fax I'm using is an HP6110 all in one set to answer on the first ring.

Any more help or the name of a prffessional in Atlanta? Thanks.

So, you havn't said if the FAX answers when you simply dial Intercom and 25. That's the first step. If the FAX won't trip on the Partner's ringing cycle, all the programming still won't get the call answered.

And if it won't answer as Intercom 25, try it temporarily on an extension port on the ACS itself, to eliminate the 308 expansion card as the culprit.

Hi Tommy,

Did exactly what you said. First I plugged the extension that the fax is attached to directly into the Ext. 10 slot on the processor and tried to intercom the fax and I got nothing. Then I changed the actual extension the fax machine was plugged into in another office and the same result. So, it looks like it's the fax machine that is not picking up but I don't understand why. It's been working flawlessly as a stand alone fax. The worse thing is, I have 3 of these HP6110 so I can't try it with a different model.

The ringing voltage is lower, and the waveform is not a pure sine wave. Your particular flavor of FAX machine just doesn't like what it is getting.

Other than that, to be sure that the ring generators in your ACS are good, test with a Standard phone, make sure it rings.

Scott98,
I saw something in there referring to vm cover. Be sure #310 for ext. 25 is not active. If you have that activated and and set for 1 ring, that's where your calls are going. If no box is built, the calls should go back to return extension.

Are all lines assigned to ext. 25?
The FAX CNG only works effectively with an auto attendant. Take all of that out.
One other option isn I/C Dial Tone #309 - set to Machine -2. That works on a lot of older faxes.

Here's the situation at the moment. I just checked #310 and it is not active, I also changed #309 to machine 2 but still nothing.

I followed TTT's advice and plugged an old portable phone into Ext 25. I intercomed it and it rand and I was able to communicate. I then put the phone on the line side of the fax and tried and it didn't even ring so it looks like it's the fax machine itself.

So, that drops me in the proverbial ... because I have 3 of these HP6110. I could go out and buy something else but who knows...

I guess there are no other suggestions to try at this point?

Thanks to all for the help.

How many pair line cord from fax to jack? I ran into a problem with an all in one unit.It was a 2 pair line cord and it was shorting out the dial tone (dedicated fax). Once I put a single pair line cord on it , it was fine.

I have a 2 pair but will try single and let you know. Thanks.
