I know this is an old chesnut but I don't seem to be able to find the solution. here goes...
I am administering an NT 4 network which has been setup with 4 servers each in their own domain. 3 of the servers are remote in regional offices and one is in the head office. They are linked by ISDN lines. I am unable to get one of the remote servers to trust the head office domain. The remote server can ping the head office server by IP address and netbios name. There is a static wins entry of domain type for the head office server on the remote server. I have also tried setting up an LMHosts file with the #PRE & #DOM values but this hasn't worked. My questions are
1. Which is the best method to use for resolving domain names in this situation? LMHosts or WINS?
2. If I set up an LMhosts on each server can it contain the information for all the domains or are you restricted to only holding the information for one in the file?
3. Is it possible to ping a domain name or can you only ping a host?
Please help as this is starting to make my life difficult.
