I am trying to setup an ftp server using beroftp. I can sort of get it to work, but not as well as something like serv-u for windows. for example, I can get an "anonymous" login to work but I can't upload or download, only view the files. I am wondering if anybody could help me by explaining what files/permissions and directories are necessary for the successfull and secure operation of an ftp server.
Thanks
I'd like to know about this myself, if anyone could help us out here :)

Thanks! Take Care,
Mike

Hi,

Beroftpd seems like a project thats no longer being worked on. Even the developer's home page doesn't seem to mention it --> . You can get hold of it from various places - e.g. for redhat at : ftp://ftp.dc.us.telia.net/pub/linux/redhat/contrib/libc6/i386/beroftpd-1.3.4-1.i386.rpm .

Apart from the docs in the package, the only info I can find is --> .

In general on ftp r/w however, its very easy to do if you just use ordinary linux accounts and don't worry about chroot environments etc. Perhaps the easiest way to admin the wu-ftpd server (default ftp server in most distros) is with the 'webmin' utility. This is a http based admin tool sponsored by Caldera - it works with various servers and you run it from a browser as . See --> .
