Setting up a wireless Test Network

Ok simple question...

So we bought a regular home router for our company network. the address scheme (range) is 192.168.0.10 for our internal network as well as 10.10.0.1.

What I would like to do is set up this router with a different addressing scheme so that if you log onto the router you cannot reach our domain. The reason is so we can test our VPN settings.

I do not want to add any VLan's if I do not have to. I changed the router to 172.16.0.1 and I can still connect directly to our domain no problem

any ideas (what am I forgetting)

First if you want to check your VPNs this router needs to be on the outside of your network - to do this you might need to go to your outside link (router, firewall) and plug in there. Then you need a valid IP address that you can give the router. this way you are on the outside yet the box is physically on the inside.

AAHHH

Just as i thought, We have a firewall but the only ports we have on the box are both taken. 1 going to the internet router and 1 going to the internal switch. No ports open on our internet router either.....

Then all you need is a 4 port hub

Between the Internet router and the firewall.

And a valid IP address (external from your own)
