Hi there,

I wish to implement a Wireless Network so that people can come in to the building and access the internet. I wish it so that we can contol who logs on - by giving them a username and password, so that we can bill them for time they are accessing. It needs to be secure and seperate from my LAN and other networks.

I have a building that has a 10MB connection, from this I run into my switches and firewalls (Extreme BlackDiamond's and Netscreen 100's). I was thinking that if the WIFI access point was connected to my DMZ and a Raduis server was then hanging on to that, it would be able to authenticate, if that matched then it would allow access out to the internet.

Now does this sound workable? and is a Raduis server the thing that I want? what is it like for ease of creating/monitoring accounts? as it will be non tech staff that would administrate this. Is it safe?
I guess I would have it on a seperate domain to my company/corperate domain.

If anyone has ideas? diagrams or know where I can get more inforamation on this it would be of great benifit, as my engineers say that Raduis does not do what I want it to do, or that it is unsafe.
Assistance greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ewan

Hi,

Thanks bcastner!

Although this does show that a Raduis server is what i need - do you/anyone have any ideas on how to do this with the standard software (Win2K) as at the moment I wish to try this without the further expense of purchasing a blackbox solution.

any diagrams or hints greatly appreciated.

ta,
Ewan.
