Hi

I need to set up a vpn so an out worker can access exchange and his shared documents on an office network based on Server 2000.

I have set a vpn PPTP from an xp system to the 2000 server.
The VPN connects and sends and receives packets.

However I am unable to log on to any shared drives.

After research I found CMAK, I followed the directions which seemed to be for server 2003 and listed boxes which I didn't get on running the wizard. However it did create an executable and other files which I then ran on the remote PC.

This created a L2TP conenctions which fails to connect to the server at all.

However I had further thoughts and changed the remopte pc to the domain name and within seconds a saw a username and password box using the PPTP. To prove a point I then typed in a total garbage domain name and got an error saying no domain controller.

I then retyped in the correct domain name and filled in a valid user name and Password.

After 45 secs a box appears telling me "The following error......... Network path not found"

I think I've made progress but th brick wall is still there in front of me.

Does any nice person have any ideas?

thanks

Ian

Hi

IP routing is enabled

if on my XP remoter PC i view network connections I see an option for "virtual Private Network" PPTP which is marked disconnected.

If I then double click is "dials" and authenticates at that point the icon minimises to the task bar and tells me it's conected and sending and receiving small bytes of data.

If I then right click on network neighbourhood and explore I can see nothing.

Now my local PC is on a workgroup, if I change it to the domain name no error is shown but I still cant see the shared data folders on the server.

The remote PC has a DrayTek Vigor 2700G router and the server end has a BT voyager 2110 which accordingto the spec supports VPN -could this be the problem?

Help would seem to be a good word.

Thanks

Ian
