Hello, I just bought a UMAX Astra 2000P scanner/w software. I can't seem to get it running. I didn't find an on switch for the scanner either. Can you help?

There is no on/off switch, it has auto shut-off after a few hours. What OS? I have a couple of old UMAX scanners that wre left with me, because they won't work with XP.

I am going back a way in my memory, but it seems to me that if you google around you will find sites where you can get the drivers for win xp for many umax scanners, including astra. At one time they didnt have the drivers at their Umax US site and i found them on their European (i think) site, either that or their South American site, but pretty sure it was the European site. They may not be there now.
Again, google may help you with this.

I will try and find what i have, but dont expect me to get back any time soon, it will be very hard for me to find them as i am packed up to move!
Sorry about that, but maybe you can still locate them using google. I know it took me a long time to find them.

Oh, i will still be here. Its just that i have a cdrom with the umax drivers on it and info on where i got them that i can post here for tchiphead2. But I have most of my computer stuff packed away and so it will be hard for me to find the info for him.
Im only moving within the city, lol. I have a huge house, half acre lot, high taxes, kids gone, very bad back (260 mg morphine per day to stay alive). So its time to move to a small house, like a bi-level, with a small lot.

Sorry about your back. Mine finally "fused" into one piece - nothing moves, so nothing hurts anymore! I just can't bend over to pick things up.

tchiphead2 - I have been looking for that cdrom or dvdrom and no luck so far. As i said, i have a lot of stuff packed away and its a lot of work but i try when i can.

micker377 - thanks! You are one of the lucky ones. I have mobility but its a very painful, burning existence. On your end, you could try accupuncture, it is especially effective for people like you who lack the mobility. However, not all people get results. I realize its not a big secret and you may have tried it.

No, what mine is, is called "Ankylosing Spondilitis" - a form of Rheumatoid Arthritis. What happens (over a period of time), is that the muscles (to the vertebrae) turn to cartilage (like in your nose), and the cartilage turns to bone. It's bad at first, as the muscles quit, it puts a strain on the remaining muscles. The usual (I'm sure you are familiar with) - muscle spasms, can't breath, etc. Have you looked into "spinal fusion" (isn't that a rock group?), to relieve the pain? Although I can't recommend anyone messing with a spine (nerves and such). Just think, if this were "the good old days" and we didn't have drugs!

I have already had 2 discs removed and my spine fused, then 4 more operations having to do with the same. I cant really have any more operations nor would i undertake another. I didnt get enough relief out of any of the operations that i did have, only a bit more mobility. Plus, the area around fusions goes bad after about 10 yrs anyway, so it goes on and on, forget it. In addition, when i was young, i had tuberculosis of the spine and spinal meningitis, mine is a very severe case, kind of off the scale. Doctors dont have any comparisons for me as they dont have patients who have had all the issues i have had.
But even they agree that there isnt a operation at this time that would guarantee to help me. I was operated twice on the man who was supposed to be about the best in the world, the famous doctor Klieder.

They told me that they could operate and free up some of the vertebraes, but in a few years I'd be right back to where I'm at now. I'm over 60, so I think I'll put up with it for the time I have left. This A.S. affects other muscles also (heart, lungs, eyes, etc). Minor stuff! <grin> And the doctor is worried about my chloresterol!

2 sick puppies here, lol. But at least i have a competent, educated doctor, the charity i am part of it has to do with chronic pain and i see a lot of people who dont get the proper meds for their condition! Ya know, i could write a book.

Im still looking for that cd, gonna take me some time, sorry.

OK - time to end the "pity-party" and concentrate on his scanner problem! Good luck.
