can you help please

i have a linux box running a vmware image with a 192.168.x.x ip which cannot be changed.

The server which it runs on has a 10.0.2.x address

The server from which i want to connect to the 192 address has an ip of 10.0.1.x and i can ping the 10.0.2.x address ok so the route is ok up to there.

what do i need to do to finish the route ?

many thanks.

Depends what your default gateway is. If it's this linux box, it should just work.

If your default gateway is another device, it will need a route for 192.168.x.x via 10.0.2.x address.

Um what does that mean which defult gateway .. you'll have to be a little more basic please

from my local machine 10.0.1.x to reach the 10.0.2.x machine which the 192.168.x.x resides is 10.0.1.254

A default gateway is the device which your local machine uses to get to remote IP subnets.

If your machine is windows, type 'ipconfig /all' in a DOS window. This will tell you what your default gateway's IP address is.

This is the device that will need a route inserting to tell it that to get to network 192.168.x.x, the next hop is via the server on 10.0.2.x
