Hi. I am just looking for some good tips when creating a new project or a project template. Things like using the Summary Task feature under 'Options' or creating a project calndar. Anything that would be useful to an immature MSP user group. Thanks!

Calendars are important. There should be a master project calendar with standard working times associated with it. If Sundays are usually non-working days, make it so, if every other Saturday is a working day, make it so.

Next, consider calendars for your resources. If you have a subcontractor who insists on using their company holidays (such as union, etc), then create a caledar for that resource. You can even take the calendar down to the individual level. This allows you to track vacation or other non-available time by person, which is also useful. For instance, if Jack has training on Mondays from 1-5, you can make a calendar for Jack noting his special work hours.

also, you might consider browsing through this forum or referring to one of the many books on Project or even competing products.

This is *so* organization and project dependent that it's difficult to tell you.

Grab 20 or 30 complete projects and see what constants they have. You'll find that it's quite difficult to make a template from that info -- and it's right in front of you. Now, imagine our difficulty when we don't know your business, what your types of projects, what your project methodology, ... well, one hopes you get the picture.
