I need to setup a modem pool here in the next week or so. I've never set one up, and really don't know where to start. If anyone has suggestions re: equipment, reading material, software, etc... I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!!

How large of a pool are you setting up? For a small one, a multi-port serial board on NT using NT RAS services is adequate.
We use a NT4 server with a DIGI Ports 8/em serial board on it. This is an expansion borad that has a cable connection to an exernal box with 8 serial ports in it. Software driver setup is almost a no-brainer and you have COM3-COM10. Put modems on the ports and add them through NT. Install the RAS services, Add the modems to the RAS services, activate IP Forwarding and you're ready to go.
On the phone side, you need to run a separate extension to each modem then, in the phone switch, set up a hunt group. This allows you to have one incoming phone number that rolls over to the first open modem to provide a link.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
