Is there a way to set up a global hotkey to do something like [ul][li]open a terminal window[/li][li]hide all windows/show desktop[/li][li]run a script[/li][/ul]
?

Take a look at xmodmap. I believe that it will accomplish what you are trying to do.

You don't say what X environment you're using. In gnome you would use the command "gnome-keybinding-properties". In twm you would add a setting to your ".twmrc".
 
Indeed, as it turns out there is a program waaay at the bottom of the system configuration menu to configure these kinds of things. However, I have noticed that I cant use the Fn key as a modifier...it just works as another key.

Is there any way I can figure out what keys are read as 0xb3, ect by the system?
