Hi, I need some advice.
I need to set up a home network. At the moment, I using ICS and a cross over cable linking my 2 pc's.
I've also got a laptop with wireless connection.
I want to go and buy an adsl wireless router so that I can use my laptop down stairs rather than having to come upstairs when I want to check my email.
Will I be able to run all computers off it, or won't I be able to use the 2 pc's that haven't got wireless access.
Perhaps it's a silly question, but I've never done anything with wireless connections before.

Thanks for your time.

Many wireless routers will incorporate several ethernet LAN ports (often 4 ports). Just be sure to check the spec of a router before you purchase...

Be careful which type of router you buy. There are two common types which invariably seem to be confused by those not knowing what to look for! An ADSL modem/router sounds like what you want, so it will connect to a Broadband enabled telephone line, and has an RJ-11 socket. The other one is a DSL router/gateway which has a WAN Ethernet RJ-45 connector, and is usually suitable for Cable rather than phone line connections.

The other point worth mentioning is that a wireless signal may not necessarily be able to permeate completely throughout the house. Walls, floors, furniture, etc., will attenuate the signal...

cheers for the reply, just got back from town.got the adsl modem (luckily, lol), all working fine.
I'm now working downstairs! lovely job

Glad you got it working! Go to a neighbor's house that has wireless and make sure their wireless cannot access yours. If they can, work on ypur WEP or WPA security settings.
