Hi,

What equipment do I need for a basic home ADSL network?

The only component I have at present is a small HP ProCurve hub, would I need a ADSL router or modem? Do all ADSL routers come with NAT and DHCP which is configurable?

Any information on how to set this up would be great.

Thanks

First and foremost, you need DSL service from a provider. The provider may dictate what devices they allow to be connected to their network. My Provider offered both Combination modem/routers and combination modem/router/switches, in addition to internal and external modems, so my choices were relatively complete.

Had the Provider only provided modems, then I would have needed a seperate router (hardware or software) and switch/hub. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I'am trying to set up a wirless router to my laptop using dsl. I have set up all the hardware and after I go and set the setting in the router set up ,then i go and check the setup in the routers set up tab i do not come up with and ip address it is set to 00000000000. how do I get this to receive my IP address.

lanvan,

How you set up the router to get an IP depends on how the provider is and what type of connection it is.

Is it ADSL?
Is it PPPoE/PPPoA?
Do you have a static IP or dynamic?
What is the make and model of the router?
