I'm working on setting this thing up. I've got a DT750 phone and this DSS Console attached to it via the supplied data cable. After spending some time following the setup instructions from the Business Features manual, and failing, I came across this <important notice> in the manual that basically says that the DSS console can't be set up with a DT700 terminal in DSS console mode; it can only be used in ADM mode, which means it acts as 60 more buttons to the phone it's attached to...

Is this for REAL? Does it really mean that this nice DSS console can't be used as a DSS console? Only a a line/feature key expansion panel? Or, in what way then, can it be made to be a DSS console?

More info...
What are some reasons why a DSS Console connected to a DT700 terminal will not work?

1.The DSS Console must use an external power transformer even when the DT700 is powered by a PoE switch.

2.The DT700 must be assigned on an even LEN level and the DSS Console on the next adjacent odd LEN level. For example:

042027 = DSS Console (2031) for station 2030
042026 = DT700 (2030)
042025 = DSS Console (2021) for station 2020
042024 = DT700 (2020)
042023 = DSS Console (2011) for station 2010
042022 = DT700 (2010)
042021 = DSS Console (2001) for station 2000
042020 = DT700 (2000)

3.The DT700 must use firmware version R4 or higher.

4.The DSS Console is only supported with a DT730 and DT750 on the SV8500 PBX running S03 software or higher.
The DT710 is not supported.
2400IPX and SV7000 are not supported.

5.The DSS Console is only supported in Add-On Module mode.

6.The DSS Console does not support BLF.

Dear Belevedere,

I'm using DT750 as a phone, with firmware 5.00.7. I have an external power supply attached to the "DSS Console" and also have the console connected to the DT750 with a data cable.
I've programmed the phone and the console on LEN numbers as you described above (which is also how it's described in the manual). The SV8500 is running on S7.

I've looked up the applicable parts in both of the manuals you referenced.

The only question remains: how - if at all - can the DSS console be programmed as a DSS Console (with the BLF feature)???
Can it only be used on a different system?
Or it can only work as such if it's connected to a station card?

Everything I found states it cannot be used as a DSS. Only as a add-on module. As an add-on module I believe you can assign extension appearances on the buttons. They should show red when busy simulating the BLF function.

Thank you for your efforts belevedere. That's basically what I was able to do: line appearances, which gets close to BLF. It's just I'm setting this up for our Operator who handles a lot of calls, and would have been nice to achieve another aspect of the DSS Console: one touch transfer. Instead of having to transfer a cell by hitting "Transfer" and the dialing the extension number, you should be able to just hit the BLF button and the caller gets transferred immediately.

Well, I progressed. Whatever the manual says, I took it as far as creating buttons on the DSS console that act as a "one-touch-transfer" button, which is exactly what I expected from the console.

The LIMITATION however is that it can only do this with lines that are on a LEN in the same stack.
