I am new to working with cisco router and bought some equipment on ebay. I want to use it for my home network but the router only has one fast ethernet port. From what i understand I need two ports on the router. One for the cable modem and one to the switch. Can I have the cable modem connected to the switch and still have the router control everything? sorry I am very new to this and am teaching myself. any help is greatly appreciated.

My equipment:
cisco 2620 xm
cisco catalyst 2900 series xl
cisco aironet 1200
ubee cable modem

Thanks again

You need your router connected directly to the cable modem. You can either purchase another ethernet module to go in your current 2600 router (2620?) or buy a 2621 series router which has two ethernet ports on it. I recommend getting some CCNA study material if you plan on configuring these.

Do you have 10BaseT port? If so, and your internet connection in under 10Mbs, just use that port to connect to the modem.

Otherwise, get a module or another router.
