setting up 2nd nic in an intel box using solaris 8

i am trying to set up a 2nd nic in an intel box using solaris 8, but when I run ifconfig it does not see the card. The configuration assistant sees the second card, but apparently the software does not. Any suggestions?

I am not familiar with solaris on the intel platform but I think you can run 'ifconfig hme1 plumb'. If the card is an hme card. After you plumb the card the first time you should be able to see it using ifconfig -a. Let me know if this works.
