Hi room !

Having a lot of problem setting up RH7.2 in a
small lan environment. I tried Corel Linux before
but the problems are bigger.

I want ftp, web,Pop services on that Linux server
also development in C (CGI).

Here we go,
ISP provides DSL internet 100kb/s
trought a '100/10 DSL router' (Linksys) 192.168.1.1
DHCP is unable on the router. (Even if both PC are
set with static address in configuration files)

PC 1 : Intel Celeron 600, 254 meg ram, 20 gig hd,
100mb/s sis900 Network Card (192.168.1.101),

PC 2 : Dell Dimension P2-450, 254 meg ram, 12 gig hd,
Intel Network Adapter 100 mb/s card (192.168.1.100)

subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
(What about Wins ?)
(Should I set DNS to be my Linux box ? even if external
dns server are present in configuration files)

The web server is working and reachable from outside.
The ftp server is slow to respond, but working.

Pop3 is not working correctly for the internet.
Cannot retrieve mail from my POP3 account or any
account from outside of my linux box...
I set the smtp to be my isp which is working fine
(kmail client, netscape mail client)

Samba is working half: on Linux box I can copy
stuff from my win98, but cannot use any share stuff
on the linux box (directory and printer).
in Win98, I can see in Network my Linux Box, but when
I click on my Linux box, It keeps asking me for IPC$
password.

I'm breaking down every service and network setting
in a Visio file (flowchart) I'm associating every service
with their respective conf. files. It's big work but
I would really like any of you to comment when I will
make it available.

Thanks and Regards !

Are you logging into a domain for Samba or is it just a workgroup setup? If it is a workgroup setup then you need to make sure that when you login to Windows the username on Windows is also on the linux server.

I though about that, and yes i'm using the good id/password
on my windows box ... however it's not working

Do you have an account on your linux machine that is the same as your Windows machine? (ie) you login to Windows with user1 and password of test and also on your Linux machine you have a username of user1 and password of test as well.
