Setting Parameter Value using CRPE

In a VC++ application, I am trying to use the CRPE to change the CurrentValue of a parameter in a report. I have tried PESetNthParameterField among others and have not had any luck.
I do know that the parameterValueInfo.disallowEditing is set to TRUE. I have been unable to change it using the current set of API calls.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
