Hi there,
I don't know very much about sendmail (in fact just about nothing at all). We have just migrated our old win2000 server to linux, and we are using sendmail. On my own pc, I use outlook express to view my mails. The one problem I have is that it seems that I am not allowed to set mailing rules, because of the fact that our server is an IMAP server. Because of this, I can't subscribe to some mailing lists, as when I do my inbox gets swamped. Does anyone know how I could set mail re-routing rules for emails coming from a certain sender on a linux server using sendmail? ( I have access to my account on the server using telnet) Thanks a lot

Sorry pclinuxguru, that faq seems to deal with a different issue (as far as I can understand) I just want to sort email that comes into my inbox alone. I don't want to bar any emails at the moment, I just want to sort them, as they come in, into different mailboxes.
Regards

I know here it is:
How do I forward received email to a different account?
faq14-1601

There are 2 ways to get mail forwarded:

1) The .forward method:

A) Create a file name .forward in user's home directory.
B) Put in email address(es) in the file.
C) Save it and your done.

2) The /etc/aliases method:

A) Open /etc/aliases
B) Following along with the rest of the file add your username and email address.
C) Save the file and type newliases at the command prompt.

Either way works the choice of which one to use is your preference.

Every time I posted it it seemed to change the faq number. So I copy and pasted it for you.

Sorry PcLinuxguru,
That's not quite what I meant either. I don't want to forward all the emails that are received into a different account - just emails with a certain sender. So for example in my ~/.mailbox folder on the mail server, let's say I have 2 mail files, INBOX and NEWSGROUP MAIL. Initally, all my email goes into the INBOX. However, what I want to happen is for email that comes from certain users to be removed from INBOX and inserted into NEWSGROUP MAIL. You can normally set up rules like this easily in outlook express, but not when you're using IMAP, it seems. Thanks for your interest.

I don't think Sendmail is what you looking at reconfiguring. Sendmail is for sending and receiving email. It doesn't sort. Are you using procmail or something? If they did a deafult install then you probably are. Here is a link for for setting up procmail to filter your email. You can look at it and see if it is what your looking for.
I don't think they have a procmail forum either but if that is what your looking for I can try and help with. Although I will be gone from here for bout a month or so.

Thanks PcLinuxGuru.
The stuff on that URL is the kind of thing I'm interested in.
