I'm trying to set the max user processes in Solaris 8. I add "set v.v_maxuprc = 500" to /etc/system and reboot (I've tried both boot and boot -r). When I check the "maximum processes per user id, it still shows 1594. I'm testing this out on a Sparcserver 20 running Solaris 8, but I will need to do this on a E3500 running Solaris 8 when I can get it to work.
Can someone help with what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
Harry

sysdef|grep processes

will confirm the actual amount of processes, that's all I can tell you
apart from the max number of processes on a 3500 should be higher.

We have a 2 x 248MHz cpu UE3000's running Solaris8 with the following: -

7690 maximum number of processes (v.v_proc)
7685 maximum processes per user id (v.v_maxup)

Our Sparc20 is Solaris 2.6 single 50 MHz cpu
5850 maximum number of processes (v.v_proc)
5845 maximum processes per user id (v.v_maxup)

whereas Ultra-2's on Solaris 8
1914 maximum number of processes (v.v_proc)
1909 maximum processes per user id (v.v_maxup)
