I read the PPP how to and configured my RedHat 8.0 to be PPP server, i made a test and when conneting from win 98 with a modem, i get a BLACK screen asking for the user i enter the a valid user with it's password i get .... a shell !!! yes a bash shell as i conenct via telnet and no ip gived to the win98. i can execute normal command as if i conenct to internet.

And..what did you expect to happen?
What exactly do you want?

I want that the win98 user when connect to the PPP server give a correct user/pass and have an IP assigned to his PPP interface and can connect to internet via my PPP server ( so linux is a getway) . I had followed all the instruction in PPP howto for setting a PPP server, now when win98 connect and give user/pass in black box: no ip is given to the PPP interface and it can not surf the web, and in the black box i get a shell account [mad] !!!

What am i missing in my config?

Did you setup a DHCP server, which would be what assigns IPs?
