Setting for TIMEOUT Parameters in TPNAMES.TBL

Currently, we have our timeout interval for inactive terminal servers (user sessions) the t5 parameter in the %TIMING entry in TPNAMES.TBL set to 30 minutes (1800 seconds). I believe Mincom distributes the table set at 20 minutes. My users would like for me to increase this setting, but I was wondering if there are technical issues or related parameters either in the %TIMING or somewhere else that I should be aware of. Any help would be appreciated! We are running SmartGUI with MIMS 4.1 on AIX - so there are no Unix sessions used.

So long as t5 is gtrater than t1, you shouldn't see a configuration problem.<br>

The main impact is that increasing the timeout will probably result in more servers running. This translates into greater memory demand, more concurrent Oracle connects, and increased context switching on your Unix hosts.<br>

I would want to watch memory usage and swap counts after increasing t5 if your box is in any way memory constrained.. Also, check Oracle high_water mark vs. allowed number of connects.<br>

Thanks, Glen. I suspect with our relatively low number of users we will be fine, although I do monitor the number of concurrent sessions for Oracle license monitoring and this will undoubtedly increase that number...<br><br>

Are the parameters in the %TIMING parameter specified in seconds, i.e. does 1800 = 30 minutes?
