We just added a new Win2003 Server as a file server. I want a certain folder to have read and write permissions, but no modify or delete. The only thing that is stumping me is how to keep users from modifiying a file already written to the folder. Saving the file as a new name is acceptable, but not modifying the already created file.

I have to do this because of CAD drawings being changed after it is sent to the shop, and then the file is revised by overwriting, so then we get two sets of blueprints, with out knowing which is the correct one.

So, in a nutshell, how do I create permissions that allow for a new file write, but no file overwrite?

Thanks!

I think I can help you with the delete.

Go to security tab, advanced, select user or group, click edit. You will have a more detailed criteria to choose from. But, it combines create files / write data as one item. Below I see create folders / APPEND data, maybe uncheck this one, and the delete is easy, uncheck delete.

Or, let me go outside the box. Have 2 groups, one "preshop" that can write to a certain folder, and a "postshop" who can write to another folder. They have read only writes to each others. So the "shop" can get files from one location, and put to another, so workflow always flowing in a certain direction.
