setting enviroment variables

I am trying to install the tomcat server on windows me. I have to set a couple of enviroment variables but I don't know how.
The documentation says you can do it by going to controlpanel-system-advanced, but I havn't got an advanced option.
Can anybody help???

run msconfig from the run option in the start menu. In there is a tab to do with environment variables. You can variables from there.
