Okies, I am trying to install Solaris 9 on my Sun Netra X1 directly from CDROM (connected a CDROM to the box on the secondary IDE channel)..

However, when booting from the CD I get a number of errors (says it cannot find certain files etc), I have a seperate thread relating to this...

I have been told by an IRC Sun expert that it may be the system date... so at the OK prompt, I tried a <date>, this is what was returned;

ok date
00/11/3200 07:57:11 GMT

I can't for the life of me find anywhere to change this date/time... how do I do it ?....

I guess the NVRAM Battery is out of order -> If you have a Sun contract call Sun, If not, pls. read the Documentation from maybe you can find some info about how to change it your own...

Sorry I'm not a native spaeker, I'm from Munich, Germany - "Home of the Whopper", oh no, "Home of the Oktoberfest" ;-)

thanx for the reply.... I am not in contact with anyone at sun (I dont really intend to either), this unit was purchased 2nd hand and probably out of warranty anyway, I dont plan on getting a support contract for it anytime soon.

I have checked those pages on Sun (downloaded all the PDF's) but unfortunately nothing covers the date/time settings :(

I was recommended to try "put-date ()" at the OK prompt, but this is unfortunately not recognised...

If it helps, the Netra is running OpenBOOT v4.0

Thanx ! Richard

as I wrote, I _guess_ (I have seen this error several times some time ago) it's the battery, since the hardwarewatch is a quite exact device and if your X1 shows the year 3200 it is gaining a little bit... ;0(

afaik there is no command to SET the date at OBP, but I may be wrong; unfortunately there is no OBP 4.0 documentation on docs.sun.com but pls search yourself

I have read loads of OBP docs on the weekend (some v4.0) and many reference charts of common commands, but none of them have anything for setting the system clock...

If it is the battery, what would this mean? I noticed it is a standard CR2032 battery which I could replace, but once replaced I assume I would still have the incorrect date?

well, I never changed the battery my own, some technican drove to the customer's site and changed battery and did some setups (I don't know exactly what he did); I would give it a try, maybe it resets to the epoch (Jan 1st 1970 00:00)?

Eeek, okies, I will give it a try...

If it does not work, what do you suggest I try next?

I was told to check the date because I was having issues booting from a Solaris 9 CDROM (directly connected), I was getting file-not-found errors while booting (I have another thread about this);

Do you think its possible the date may be causing the boot issues? The person I spoke to on IRC is certainly clued up on Solaris and Sun systems and was pretty sure my boot issues were due the date being incorrect :(

unfortunately I am not a hardware expert but I will try to get a hint from one of my former colleagues...

ok, I've asked some hw-specialist: there is no date-setting command, you have to boot an os to do so...

Ok, I would suggest to change the battery and see what it changes...

okies, I will try booting from the CD again, but using the -sw switch... if that does not work, I might try loading OpenBSD on it, I need to check to ensure reliable versions of Webmin and BIND....

I also need to make sure the 2x onboard (DMFE) LAN adapters work with OpenBSD
