I've got a permissions related problem on XP Pro.

I'm trying to assign permissions to a folder in the 'Programs Folder' called 'Goldmine' but everytime I set full control for creator/owner and press apply, the ticks all disappear.

I'm logged on as a user with administrative rights.

I notice on the general tab of the 'Goldmine' folder that their is a greyed out tick in 'Read only' but where is that coming from? Could that be the cause of my problem?

Thanks

peter

The CREATOR OWNER has special permissions to a folder, these give the owner full rights. You can change the owner by clicking the Advanced button on the Security Tab for a folder.

Also all folders will remain read only no matter how many times you try and change it. Take a look at or for details

Any feed back is appreciated.

Thanks for that, I read the docs and used attrib -r -s c:\progra~1\goldmine at the command prompt. I appeared to accept the command and now when I view the folder properties I can remove the read only tick but when I go into the NTFS permissions it still will not remember if I set creator/owner to full control.

Any more ideas please? It seems to be the reason why I can't get Goldmine to run over the network using the XP machine as the server.

Thanks again

peter

You would want to give the group Everyone and Guest the NTFS permissions of Full Control.

Thanks bcastner,

Will give it a go tonight.

(I have to wait until close of business in South Africa and then access the machine using VNC from UK - what a pain!)

Will let you know.
