Setting Camera Height, Width

Do you know how to program the camera height, width in DirectShow 8.1. I know the way through the menus, but I want to set it at initialization time. I have tried the IVideoWindow interface but it doesn't seem to set it?? Ideally I want to query the resolutions, and set the camera to the highest resolution it has.
