Hi all,

We have just moved from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 and the move was successfull except for one issue that is becoming a problem. With Exchange 5.5, we were able to create groups and get our users to assign a reviewer role in their local calendar permissions to that group so they can view the users calendar without having to enter permissions for every user. Now, after moving to 2000 it seems like I lost that feature, when I try to assign any permissions to a group instead of an individual, outlook comes back with an error 'The modified permissions could not be saved' if I try to do it through adding the permissions in Delegates, it does not give me errors, but the next time I view the properties of the delegates it does not show the group listed. Basically, I can no longer assign permissions to groups after the move !!! :(

Please help

Thanks

Are you running in Mixed mode? If you are then the mail enabled groups that you have are probably showing in ADU&C as Universal groups. If that is the case then you cannot assign these groups permissions as Universal groups are only available in Native mode. I would NOT change this unless you are sure you want to though as you cannot revert back to native mode once you have completed the change.

"Do not change domain mode if you have or will have any Windows NT 4.0 domain controllers. You can only change the mode from mixed mode to native mode Once a domain is running in native mode, it cannot be changed back to mixed mode."

"Using Mixed-Mode Operations By default, when you install Exchange Server, the operations mode is set to mixed. The mixed-mode configuration provides for interoperability with Exchanger 5.0 and Exchanger 5.5 but limits the capabilities of Exchange 2000 Server. These limitations directly affect the way administrative groups are used and effectively force Exchange 2000 Server to handle administrative groups in the same way that Exchanger 5.5 handles sites."

The workaround would be to manually create new groups and make sure they are Global and not Universal. I don't think the Universal option will be available. Once you have created these new groups you will be able to assign them permissions to Outlook folders, etc.

Sorry for such a long post - hope it makes sense and helps.
