How do you do this?
There is an access code for call-forward all calls - say *5xxxx (where xxxx is the destination of call forward). You can just pick up a standard analog or digital or NEC SIP phone, dial the above code, you get a service set tone, you hang up and call forward is set.
But on a 3rd party SIP phone, dialing is a different story. When I dial the above code, after the dial time-out, I get a fast busy.
What's the trick here?

Just tried this on SIP phones with no issue. The confirmation tone was a little different but it set just fine.

Thanks for the answer.
Since I posted this question, I got as far as being able to set call forwarding on the phone, but the "confirmation" tone is fast-busy. So this may confuse users. I would like it to work a bit nicer..

I recall he latest version software in the SV8500 (and SV8300) now provide service set tone when setting CF'ing on STD SIP stations.

That's very useful information since it just so happens that I upgraded the system to S7 (latest version that came out in August), and I didn't know about that. I'll dive right into the manuals.
Thank you for the tip.
