How can I set a task to update the auto update on my clients? They have a default setting of weekly on Fri @5pm. I would like to change that to daily begining at 7am. TIA

I was inform by NAI that this setting was "hard coded" into the program. Setting a Agent update task will not show in the GUI. You will have to look fro a .ini file in C:\dos and settings\all users\application data\network assoc\. They are not named as your task so you will need to open them to se if this task is being applied at the client level...

If you are referring to the AutoUpdate task within VirusScan that is set to Friday 5 PM, that is the task that runs locally on each PC and independent of ePO. This can be configured to a different time/day combo by configuring the setting locally at each PC.

If you are also using ePO, the AutoUpdate task you create within ePO is executed at the times you configured the task to run at but it will not show up on the VirusScan console. This means if you set your ePO task to run daily at 7 AM and the local AutoUpdate task set to Friday 5 PM, then your PCs will perform the daily updates and Friday will be the day you will see AutoUpdate run at 7 AM and at 5 PM.

I think if you have VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 and ePO 3.x, then both ePO tasks and local tasks will show up in the Console, but I can't confirm since I don't have ePO 3.x installed yet.

Personally I used McAfee's Installation Designer to repackage my VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 installation package to have the local AutoUpdate task set to daily updates at 1:00 PM and I have an ePO task set to daily updates at 8:00 AM. That way I will have two updates in one day. If I need to push out an emergency DAT update, I just change the task on ePO and push those out.

Hope this helps.
