Setting an Auto-Reply message

What is the recomended way to set an auto-reply message FBSD with Postfix?

I know of two ways, the vacation command in FBSD and the .procmailrc file, but I am not sure what the advantages are of one over the other, or if there are other alternatives.

I would appreciate any input.
