Does anyone have any suggestions on if SMTP Notification doesn't operate?

I did set up the Define Actions on the Alarm tab under Tools > Options to enable alarm actions.
It's SMTP server name, its port number(25), and the mail recipient's name and email address. It was selected Always on and Expert alarms was set to logged (in Tools/Expert Options/Alarms) for notification to take effect.
I think all these setting is normal.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you using Sniffer Portable or Distributed? On Sniffer Distributed, you MUST have yoru Console up and connected to that agent for any email/pager notification to function (only traps and console alarms function without the console open to that agent).

This should all work fine under portable, have you verified proper SMTP server setting and sent a test email from the command line (telnet to port 25 on the email server etc).
