What is the relation between command setpagedevice and PPD file?
Perhaps the PS driver creates setpagedevice commands on the basis of PPD content?

Thank you.

That's exactly the way it works. The PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file lists the features of your printer, usually described with the accompanying setpagdevice command or code snippet. The driver uses those commands based on choices you make in your print dialog.

That's what allows a single PostScript driver to work with multiple printers and present different options to the user in terms of page size, color, trays, and so forth.

Hi,

I'm rather new to this postscript forum so if this question has been address in previous posts please forgive my duplicate posting. I've have seen postscript programs which will print out the fonts loaded on a particular device (fontlist.ps).

Is there a similiar postscript program that will print all the default settings for a printer? For example, I would like to know how a printer references the "setpagedevice" for a specific paper tray.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You get all of that out of the PPD.

The font is different, that's a loadable resource, and you would use a PostScript program with a "resourceforall" loop to interate those.

But device-specific settings are in the PPD.
