we just installed Aloha and our Aloha rep had it set up to do automatic preauth. Is there a way to set it up so the user defines the pre auth amount on any credit card? They say no, but there has to be, in our previous POS, RM, it allowed bartenders to define the pre auth amount.

There is but not recommended.
If you are using the classic Aloha shell, go to store settings, drop down to Credit card, goto Autorization page. From there you can enter predefined amounts. For some night clubs I support they have large table minimums. They will preauth $5000 or more if the table minimum is that high. I recommend using the following amounts
$100, $250, $500, $750, $1000, $2500 and $5000 unless you need even higher.

Maintenance > Store > Store Settings > Credit Card group > Authorization GB
