set up web server

I am trying to set up my nt server to be a web server so others can access just a specific directory from the web.

I have iis running and it seems to have inetpub/

http://wwwroot

but when I put a html page in there and go to the ip from a web browser then i get page cannot be displayed.

please advise?

Have you indicated in the website properties the location of the default web page (ie your webpage).
